On-Platform IPS Services:

Poor and incomplete implementations of IPS services within firewalls today are the norm. In stark contrast, the granular ability within Secure Firewall to apply highly current, pre-organized service groups of IPS signatures against specific connection flows on a rule-by-rule basis puts Secure Firewall in an IPS class by itself. In addition, Secure Firewall benefits from rapid-response global analysis sensors all around the Internet that aggressively analyze Internet traffic for newly emerging attacks twenty-four hours a day. The global IPS service automatically builds IPS attack signature candidates for packets analyzed to be malicious; and at speeds and accuracy levels far outpacing general industry practice. Following immediate human review of all automatically constructed IPS signature candidates, the new attack signatures are broadcast to Secure Firewalls around the world, strengthening our customers’ ability to rapidly defend against all classes of Internet threats—both known and unknown.

Building an IPS attack response strategy is powerful yet easy to accomplish in Secure Firewall on a per-rule basis. Many attack response options are available to the Secure Firewall administrator including a combination of blackhole techniques, alerting options, and audit choices. The attack response wizard in Secure Firewall makes setting up comprehensive IPS response strategies easy. In addition, our SecurityReporter™ software can be set up on the network to collect, aggregate, and act on Secure Firewall audit & log files; monitor & receive alerts on hacker and malware attacks; identify attack type, source, and severity in real time; and help regulatory compliance with HIPAA, GLBA, and Sarbanes-Oxley.

Pricing Notes:

• This IPS feature includes 2 components BOTH of which MUST be purchased on the initial purchase order to activate the IPS feature correctly. Both of these components also have to be ordered for EVERY Secure Firewall in the customer’s organization (i.e. on every Secure Firewall in their organization that they wish to run the IPS service). The 2 components include an "IPS engine" and an "IPS Subscription Service".
• The IPS engine component on the Secure Firewall models 110 to 510 (including the RM700) are a "software" IPS engine while on the models 1100 to 4150 they are an ASIC-accelerated hardware IPS engine.
• The IPS engine is a one-time cost that the customer pays the first time only, while the IPS subscription is a yearly service that they must renew to keep their signatures current.
• The IPS Subscription Service can only be purchased in conjunction with the IPS Engine and it is only compatible with Secure Firewall “C” & “D” model appliances that are running Secure Firewall version 7.x.
